LARVAE INFORMATION
Hatch Size (min-max in mm SL): Preanal Length (%SL): 41 at preflexion, 62 at flexion, 68 at postflexion
Flexion Length (in mm SL): >4, <7
Length at Transformation (in mm SL): >10, <28
Fin Development Sequence: Caudal, pectorals, anal, dorsal, pelvics (pelvics may form early)
Larval Pigment Regions: In each developmental larval stage, pigment is present in the regions listed below

Yolk-sac:
Preflexion: mouth, crown,
Flexion: mouth, crown, nape, cheek, dorsal gut, dorsal finfold, pectoral fin, mediolateral,
Postflexion: mouth, crown, cheek, dorsal gut, lateral gut, ventral gut, dorsal finfold, pectoral fin, dorsal, mediolateral,
Juvenile: mouth, crown, nape, cheek, isthmus, dorsal gut, lateral gut, ventral gut, dorsal finfold, anal finfold, caudal finfold, pectoral fin, dorsal, ventral, mediolateral, caudal,
Pigment Diagnostics: Distinguished from other myctophids with round eyes by: large spot at adipose fin in postflexion larvae
Diagnostic Characters: See myctophid photophore figure. Photophores: only Br2 develops during larval period (7.8 mm SL), remaining photophores develop synchronously at end of transformation period. Distinguished from other myctophids with round eyes by: initially slender with a small head; with development, head and body deepens and broadens and an elongate snout develops; pectorals moderately large, jaws large with teeth, large spot at adipose fin
